Testing in Nonparametric Varying Coefficient Additive Models

چکیده
In this paper we consider the problem of testing for a general parametric form against a nonparametric alternative for a coefficient function in a varying coefficient multivariate regression model. We propose a test statistic and derive its asymptotic null and alternative distributions. We analyze the asymptotic power of the test in shrinking neighborhoods of the null hypothesis, and show that the test is asymptotically optimal. These theoretical results are derived under the fairly general condition of absolute regularity (β-mixing) for the predictor variables. We give numerical results that support the theory. We also illustrate usefulness of the method through an application to a body fat dataset where we build a simple, yet accurate, model that predicts well individual body fat values. This was joint work with Jun H. Hwang and Min S. Park.

متن کاملVarying-Coefficient Additive Models for Functional Data
Abstract Both varying-coefficient and additive models have been studied extensively in the literature as extensions to linear models. They have also been extended to functional response data. However, existing extensions are still not sufficiently flexible to reflect the functional feature of the responses. In this paper, we extend both varying-coefficient and additive models to a much more fle...
متن کاملVariable Selection in Nonparametric and Semiparametric Regression Models
This chapter reviews the literature on variable selection in nonparametric and semiparametric regression models via shrinkage. We highlight recent developments on simultaneous variable selection and estimation through the methods of least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso), smoothly clipped absolute deviation (SCAD) or their variants, but restrict our attention to nonparametric a...
متن کاملNonlinear Nonparametric Regression Models
Almost all of the current nonparametric regression methods such as smoothing splines, generalized additive models and varying coefficients models assume a linear relationship when nonparametric functions are regarded as parameters. In this article, we propose a general class of nonlinear nonparametric models that allow nonparametric functions to act nonlinearly. They arise in many fields as eit...
متن کاملLong-term Iran's inflation analysis using varying coefficient model
Varying coefficient Models are among the most important tools for discovering the dynamic patterns when a fixed pattern does not fit adequately well on the data, due to existing diverse temporal or local patterns. These models are natural extensions of classical parametric models that have achieved great popularity in data analysis with good interpretability. The high flexibility and interpretab...
